Where Was Kelly Severide on Chicago Fire This Week?

s one of the flagship first responders of Chicago Fire, you better believe Chihards are quick to notice when Firehouse 51 icon Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) is not in the building.

Fans were left missing the One Chicago fan favorite during Fire‘s February 4 episode, “Coming In Hot,” when a few familiar faces were notably M.I.A. from their typical Windy City post. Viewers were in no shortage of action as the Firehouse 51 firefighters continued saving the day as usual, but are of course eager to see the steadfast Sergeant return to his wife, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), and the rest of the Firehouse 51 family. However, with their foster son’s recent relocation to Cleveland, it won’t be too unusual to hear about Severide taking a few days off to visit Isaiah (Hero Hunter).

Find out why Severide was M.I.A. on Season 14, Episode 12 (“Coming In Hot”), below.

What happened to Kelly Severide on Chicago Fire? (February 4)

Chihards didn’t have to wait long to learn why Severide was gone after Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) was happy to greet CFD floater and former 51 secretary Kylie (Katelynn Shennett) back at the firehouse. Stella invited Kylie to help run a Girls on Fire training session with prospective recruits during the downtime she had from her husband being out of town.

“Severide is in Cleveland visiting Isaiah,” Stella explained, adding that she’d rather be running drills with the Girls on Fire ladies than scrolling mindlessly on social media.

Chief Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) addressed Severide’s absence during 51’s morning meeting, revealing that Severide wasn’t the only one missing from action; Sal Vasquez (Brandon Larracuente) was also absent from Firehouse 51 due to a CFD assignment taking him elsewhere that shift.

So, worry not, Chihards, Severide will return to the Windy City action soon enough.

Season 14 of Chicago Fire has been an emotional ride for Stellaride

A split of Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd in Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 10.

Between his many duties at Firehouse 51 and the emotional rollercoaster he’s been on with his wife, Severide has had little time to rest on Season 14 of Chicago Fire. The season kicked off with the couple getting the devastating news that they’d lost their baby. It was a troubling development quickly sidelined by a shocking silver lining: a foster son who needed guardians.

Becoming foster parents to Isaiah brought Severide and Stella great joy as they developed a sweet connection with the shy young kid. But just as they became a family, Isaiah’s mother woke up from her coma. The couple was heartbroken once they realized the best step was for Isaiah to move to Cleveland to be closer to his mother.

Even though Isaiah’s biological mom is showing steady signs of recovery, Severide and Stella remain just as committed to showing up for their foster son and will likely make several visits to Ohio to check in on Isaiah. Despite their many hurdles this season, Severide and Stella have come together as a steel-tight unit in their challenges, and Chihards are happy to see them emerge from the flames stronger than ever.

With 14 seasons of blazing infernos, heroic rescues, and heartwarming storylines, Chihards never tire of seeing what Severide gets up to next, and Kinney couldn’t be more honored to be along for the ride.

“It’s never lost on me how special it is to be a part of something with the longevity this has,” Chicago Fire O.G. Kinney told Us Weekly in a May 2022 interview. “It’s a testament to [series creator] Dick Wolf and the team of people he puts together.”

Find out what happens to Severide next by watching Chicago Fire on Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC and the next day on Peacock.
