When is Casualty back as BBC show disappears from schedules?

BBC One’s Casualty has gone off air again, right before the finale of the medical drama’s current boxset.

If you’re reading this thinking it feels like the show’s only just returned to our screens, that’s because it’s true!

Last September, Casualty went off air and didn’t return until January 10, 2026. The launch of the new boxset Learning Curve saw two new doctors arrive at Holby City’s ED – Matthew Linklater (Aron Julius) and Kim Chang (Jasmine Bayes).

We’ve also seen a hugely powerful storyline air involving Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill), which has seen her attempt to move forward after being sexually assaulted while walking home.

It’s been another incredibly dramatic mini-series, but the concluding part of Learning Curve isn’t going to reach your screens for a little while.

Here’s everything you need to know.

Why isn’t Casualty on and when will it return?

Following last Saturday’s (March 21) episode, Casualty will now be off air until April 11, which is after the Easter break.

This is because different shows will air on both Saturdays, meaning there won’t be enough room in the BBC One schedule for Casualty to be broadcasted as well.

What has happened in Casualty recently?

The Learning Curve boxset has been huge for a number of ED residents. Shortly after Matty arrived, Dylan Keogh (William Beck) learnt that his mum was someone he had a connection with when they were at university.

It took him a little while to get his answer, but Dylan eventually discovered that he is Matty’s biological father.

Matty’s friend and colleague Kim has been keeping her eating disorder a secret from everyone. Last week though, she finally confided in Matty about her relationship with food and how she’s previously got help for her eating disorder at a therapy retreat, but Kim felt pressured when Matty urged her to tell Stevie Nash (Elinor Lawless).

Also in the hospital, Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) has been a pillar of support for Siobhan in the aftermath of her rape. There was trouble at the weekend though, as the duo discovered Cam Mickelthwaite (Barney Walsh) had been attacked amid his attempt at getting revenge on Chris, Siobhan’s rapist.

By the time this boxset ends, we will see the team attend the funeral of someone close to them. This was revealed in the trailer, but all we know right now is the likes of Stevie, Iain Dean (Michael Stevenson) and Rash Masum (Neet Mohan) will say their goodbyes.
