WALKING WITH THE D.E.V.I.L: TODD’S DANGEROUS GAME OF DECEPTION REACHES A D.E.A.D.L.Y PEAK!
Our hearts have been absolutely breaking for Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) in Coronation Street over the past few months as Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) has stepped up his control and abuse.
Todd and Theo first got together last year, and it didn’t take long for Theo’s true colours to shine through.
It started with nasty comments about Todd’s appearance, and escalated to gaslighting and isolating him from friends.
Over time, Theo’s violence turned physical, with one terrifying incident resulting in Todd needing hospital treatment after Theo smashed his head against a mirror.
Theo’s most recent act of cruelty was to take control of Todd’s finances, after he discovered that Todd had accumulated some credit card debt.
Not only did he set up a joint account and get the log in details for Todd’s, he cut up his cards, leaving Todd unable to access his money without asking Theo for cash.

However, Theo has been away for the past few days, and Todd has been struggling for money. He even had to ask Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) to pay for their groceries, which he felt terrible about.
In tonight’s episode, he worked up the courage to ask boss George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) for an advance on his wages.
George offered him a gift card he’d been given by one of his customers, but Todd was desperate for the cash.
Fortunately, George agreed to the advance, much to Todd’s relief, but it came with a mini lecture about not spending beyond his means.
Todd was able to use the cash to pay off Summer, before taking a big risk with what was left over.

He took the remaining cash and hid it in a jar in the back of a cupboard, where hopefully Theo wouldn’t find it.
It’s a huge risk, as Theo has a history of violence, and we can only imagine how badly he’ll react if he finds out that Todd has been hiding things from him.
Theo is someone who is desperate to maintain control, and we’ve already seen how far things can go when that is threatened.
Last month, Billy Mayhew found out how Theo had been treating Todd, and even found the unedited footage of Todd defending himself against Theo. The incident ended with Todd being arrested and Theo taken to hospital in a cruel twist of fate.
After learning about the hidden cameras planted in the flat, Theo edited the footage and manipulated Todd into believing that he was the aggressor in their relationship.

When Billy showed Todd the real footage, Todd agreed to leave, only their plan was thwarted when Theo joined them on the minibus.
Tragedy struck when the vehicle was involved in a multi-car pile-up, and Theo saw an opportunity to keep Billy quiet by trapping him inside the van and leaving him to die in the subsequent explosion.
With another murder coming up on the cobbles, could Theo be set to uncover Todd’s secret and take his violence even further, resulting in Todd’s death?
Or would Todd sense imminent danger and fight back, accidentally killing Theo in self-defence?
Or, and this is the option we’re all hoping for, will Todd be able to keep his stash of money a secret and use it to escape Theo for good?
