THE ENDER? EastEnders’ Nigel Bates’ fate revealed after dementia-stricken star’s bath drowning horror

EASTENDERS has revealed Nigel Bates’ fate after he was left to drown in the bath despite his dementia battle.

The beloved character – who is played by actor Paul Bradley in the BBC soap – found himself unable to stay above the water in harrowing scenes shown last night.

He was last seen slipping under and struggling to breathe as best pal Phil Mitchell argued with Mark Fowler in the kitchen.

In today’s episode Nigel – who has dementia – slipped out of consciousness with Phil only remembering his friend was upstairs at the last minute.

He raced upstairs and found Nigel not breathing.

Phil then began chest compressions on his friend, telling him: “Don’t leave me.”

With that failing to work, they turned him on his side and Phil landed two heavy blows on Nigel’s back – and that did the trick.

Water flew out of his lungs and he began breathing again.

An ambulance was called and Nigel was taken in – with Julie who had been summoned over.
