Rita and Brian accidentally take on Hope in Coronation Street – and may regret it
Coronation Street is packed with baddies. Paedophile Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon), abuser Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), slimy Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) and new bunny boiler Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown).
Representing the younger generation, though, is Hope Dobbs (Isabella Flanagan), who’s lineage as the daughter of a serial killer may have informed some of her bad behaviour over the years, with her harbouring a penchant for pyromania a few years ago.
Though she’s settled down somewhat, could the aforementioned Jodie manipulate her into further villainy?
It all starts when Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) gives David Platt’s (Jack P Shepherd) daughter, Lily (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) a paper round.
Lily’s hardly chuffed at the prospect of delivering papers for the Kabin at God-knows-what time of the morning and promptly dumps all of the papers, while Hope seeks out Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox) for help with her Duke of Edinburgh award.
Though it all seems to be going well initially, Hope well and truly puts her foot in it with an absent minded comment about Rita’s age.

When Brian visits David and informs him and Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) of what Lily’s done, Jodie, who’s not long been busted having it off with fellow baddie Carl by David, swoops in to help.
Taking Lily over to the Kabin, Jodie demands that she apologise to Brian, though, when the apology leaves much to be desired and Lily simply ask for her job back, Brian stands firm and refuses.
The next day, Jodie waxes lyrical to Hope about the mistreatment she feels Lily has received. As she blags on, Hope has heard enough and sticks up for Rita and Brian.

Seemingly ever-scheming, Jodie doesn’t take kindly to this and proceeds to pour a shot of 100%-proof poison into Hope’s ear.
Insinuating that, while Rita and Brian may present as nice to her face, they’re probably raking her over the coals behind her back, Hope’s resolve fades in the face of Jodie’s manipulation, and she begins to worry that she’s being mocked behind her back.
With her mind well and truly twisted, Hope is utterly wounded later on to overhear them discussing her troubled childhood and the various scrapes she’s found herself in.
Deeply hurt, will Hope be able to let this slide? Turn the other cheek? Forgive and forget?
