The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that Melissa Claire Egan (Chelsea Lawson) recently shared some difficult news on her Instagram regarding a medical issue she’s been dealing with.

Egan spoke out about her coronary heart disease diagnosis and delivered a vital message to all her followers.

As Melissa Claire Egan began her post, she admitted this diagnosis came in late January.

Egan clarified that her prognosis is good, but she also felt the need to step outside her comfort zone and go public with this health crisis.

“Thanks to early detection, and medicine, I will be okay! I’m a private person, but this seemed TOO IMPORTANT NOT TO SHARE. Especially for women,” Egan said.

Egan explained that her personal doctor recommended a cardiologist after her bloodwork showed cause for concern.

That led to a heart calcium scan and a disturbing discovery.

Evan confirmed that plaque was found in her LAD artery and shared the dangers of when this condition goes by undetected for too long.

“It’s mild so far and tends to be genetic, but rare for a 44 year old woman. This could have caused the plaque to chip off and cause a fatal heart attack or stroke any time over the next 5-10 years, maybe even sooner,” Egan said.

Egan also talked about how she felt after she faced this diagnosis.

Although it was obviously scary to hear, Egan couldn’t help but be thankful when bedtime rolled around for her young boys.

“Later that night after I was diagnosed, I laid with my sons, putting them to bed, feeling so grateful to God and my doctors that I found this early. But I couldn’t stop thinking about all the other women(and men) that might have this disease and not know it. It is under-tested and under-recognized,” Egan insisted.

Egan then shared some stats and stressed how crucial it was to monitor heart health through available testing.

After Egan recommended telling your doctor that you want to be evaluated for coronary heart disease risk, she suggested blood tests to “specifically look for Lipoprotein(a) and ApoB levels” along with a heart calcium scan.
