Fans will recall that Joel last reprised his role as Jake in 2024 when he briefly returned to Albert Square with Chrissie after her release from prison, but Jake’s family are still in the dark about his character being alive.

EastEnders' Jake Moon star on surprising lengths to keep return secret | Radio Times

Jake first made his appearance on EastEnders as Alfie Moon’s (Shane Richie) cousin back in 2004.

During his stint on the show, Jake was embroiled in several plotlines, primarily revolving around his tense relationships with brother Danny Moon (Jake Maskall) and their crime boss Johnny Allen (Billy Murray).

Most notably, during the Get Johnny Week storyline, Jake unintentionally killed Danny after discovering that Danny had murdered Dennis Rickman (Nigel Harman) under Johnny’s orders.

In October 2006, Johnny summoned Jake to order him to assassinate Sean Slater after finding out he was exploiting his daughter Ruby Allen for her wealth.

However, before he could make the call, he suffered a heart attack and only managed to whisper “Jake…kill him for me”.

Johnny’s cellmate misinterpreted that Johnny wanted Jake killed and Johnny passed away shortly after in hospital.

Jake later decided to bid farewell to Walford but as he exited Albert Square, he was confronted by a stranger asking if he is Jake Moon.

Fast forward nearly 18 years, it was unveiled that he survived the confrontation and Jake reunited with Chrissie after her release from prison in 2024.

After a fleeting visit to Albert Square to reflect on old times, the pair departed for a fresh start elsewhere – but what’s prompted his return on this occasion?
