FBI Team Is “Very Worried” For Maggie After Family Tragedy As Missy Peregrym Skips Next Season 8 Episode
Heartbreak at the Bureau: FBI Team ‘Rightfully Concerned’ for Maggie Bell After Devastating Loss
NEW YORK — The halls of the FBI’s New York Field Office are heavier than usual following the tragic events of Season 8, Episode 14, “Forgiven.” Special Agent Maggie Bell, a cornerstone of the elite unit, has suffered a blow that may change her character forever. After the brutal murder of her sister, Erin, the team is bracing for the emotional fallout as Maggie attempts to navigate her grief while remaining one of the Bureau’s top agents.
A Family Tragedy
The recent episode delivered a gut-wrenching twist that saw Maggie (Missy Peregrym) in a desperate race against time. Her sister, Erin, was kidnapped by the ruthless Ray DiStefano, a figure from Maggie’s past. Despite the team’s exhaustive efforts to locate her, the rescue mission ended in tragedy. Erin was found dead in the back of DiStefano’s truck, leaving Maggie to process a loss that is as personal as it is professional.
As a result of the trauma, Maggie will be absent from the upcoming episode to handle funeral arrangements and personal matters. However, her return to the field on March 30 is already sparking discussions among the cast about how the team will—and should—respond to her return.
The Team’s “Rightful Concern”
In a recent interview with TV Insider, series regular Juliana Aidén Martinez, who plays Special Agent Eva Ramos, opened up about the atmosphere at the office. Martinez noted that while the team is a family, navigating someone’s “heavy” trauma requires a delicate balance.
“When you experience something so traumatic like losing a sister… you feel each other out,” Martinez explained. “I do think the team is rightfully concerned, and also each person’s going to react differently in how they give a person space. The team wants to make sure that Maggie’s good.”
For long-time partners like OA Zidan (Zeeko Zaki) and Stuart Scola (John Boyd), the concern is rooted in years of shared history. However, for Martinez’s character, Eva Ramos—the newest addition to the squad—the situation is more complex.
A Test of Trust for Eva Ramos
Since joining the team in Season 8, Eva has been working to establish herself. Now, she finds herself in the middle of a delicate team dynamic. Martinez hinted that because Eva lacks the years of history that others share with Maggie, she must “tread lightly.”
“There’s a desire for connection and partnership,” Martinez said, “but how much is Maggie going to trust her to come in [during this time]?”
While Maggie is away, Eva will take center stage in the next episode, investigating a drug kingpin from her own past as a prosecutor. This shift in focus gives viewers a deeper look at the new agent just before the team must reunite to support their grieving leader.
What’s Next for Maggie Bell?
Missy Peregrym has also shared her thoughts on the arc, noting that while FBI is a procedural drama, this loss will have a lasting impact. She expressed hope that the storyline would show “connection, relationship, intimacy, and growth,” rather than just focusing on the “horrors of humanity.”
Fans can expect a major shakeup upon Maggie’s return on March 30, as the team investigates a double homicide with help from a Deputy Chief of Station from the new spinoff, CIA. Whether Maggie can find her footing after such a profound loss remains the biggest question of the season.
FBI airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on CBS.
