Emmerdale favourite Lisa Riley updates fans after suffering nasty fall

Emmerdale favourite Lisa Riley has provided fans with a cheery update after suffering a nasty fall. The star, who plays Mandy Dingle in the ITV soap, slipped off her breakfast stool last weekend and badly injured her left thumb.

The tumble meant that Riley had to undergo surgery at Leeds General Infirmary, before being strapped into a sling. Now, the actor has taken to Instagram to express her gratitude and share how she’s getting on post-op.

“Hi everybody. There she is, there’s my new thumb, still with loads of iodine on from the operation,” she said in a video, showing her cast to the camera. “I just wanted to say a massive, massive thanks for all the love and support I’ve had from all of you online.

ITV”It means the world. Yeah, I’m in pain. I am, not gonna lie. I’ve just gotta heal, get better. And yes, I did fall off a high breakfast stool that was polished leather, with my cardi, and I became a human sledge – there you go, that’s what I did.”

The actor, who debuted as Mandy in 1995, explained that she “had to have a lot of work done ” on “what then became a floppy thumb” after she fell on it. Subsequently, she jokingly named her new stool “slippedy doo-dah”.

Riley continued by thanking everyone for their well wishes, sharing that she now needs to “rest and recover and take plenty of pain relief – because it hurts A LOT”. She also praised the NHS staff at Leeds General Infirmary for taking care of her during the incident.

Once again, the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star was inundated with messages of support from fans in the comment section, with several followers wishing her a speedy recovery.

“Bless you🥹 you never fail to bring positivity though keep smiling hope you recover soon,” wrote one, with another posting: “Ahhh bless ya Lisa sending you so much love and wishing you better real soon.”

A third follower shared a similar story to Riley’s injury, commenting: “Lots of love and I can sympathise with you. I did my scaphoid and fractured a bone in my thumb slipping on black ice back in January. Thumb is still not healing but we keep going as best as we can.”
