Daniel Brocklebank has said he’s not had ‘time to process’ his exit from Coronation Street as he teased what’s ahead for his character ahead of his Weatherfield departure.

The actor made his debut in the ITV soap towards the end of 2014 in the role of reformed vicar Billy Mayhew and in that time, he has seen his fair share of drama on the cobbles. But Billy’s time in Weatherfield is coming to an end, as Daniel confirmed he’d be bowing out of the role after 11 years.

He shared the news in a statement in May, which read: “I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work. I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.”

It was then in mid-November that Daniel confirmed he’d finished filming at the Trafford-based set for the last time. But after filming his Corrie exit, Daniel was quickly seen moving on to his next job, performing in Young Frankenstein the Musical at the Liverpool Playhouse.

In the Hope Mill Theatre’s production, which tells the story of the grandson of Victor Frankenstein who moves to Transylvania, Daniel is taking on the role of Dr Fredrick Frankenstein until January 3, 2026.

Speaking about leaving Corrie and jumping straight back onto the stage, Daniel told Inside Soap in a new interview: “It’s been like being shot out of a cannon. I literally finished filming with Corrie at quarter to one on the 18 November. And by half past one, I was in the rehearsal room with a pair of tap shoes on, singing and dancing.”

He added: “So I’ve not even had time to process that I’m not at Corrie anymore. It’s been such a busy time. I only had five days rehearsal. Having not really done theatre since about 2012 and having never done musical theatre, this was like a baptism of fire.”

Daniel was also quizzed on whether Billy could be the one to help save Todd Grimshaw from his abusive relationship with Theo Silverton befoe he leaves the cobbles behind. He admitted that Billy’s “not stupid” and on-screen at the moment, is picking up on signs that things aren’t quite right between the couple.

Asked whether Billy could be the one to save Todd, he laughed and added to the publication: “Yes, I mean, Billy could put on a cape and wear his pants over his tights! And do some sort of heroic, ‘vicar Superman’ thing. It would be nice.

“I don’t think there are any residual feelings necessarily between Billy and Todd, but I think when you’ve been that close with someone, you never really stop caring about them. Billy’s a very caring person, so of course he would want Todd to be okay.”
