Coronation Street star set to be UK’s most hated auditioned for previous roles

Coronation Street newcomer Beth Nixon is already causing a stir in her role as sports coach Megan, but this isn’t the first cobbles character she’s auditioned for.

Megan first appeared on our screens last week, bringing Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) back to the Rovers after his attempt at going AWOL.

However, it quickly became clear that she wasn’t just the good samaritan teacher she painted herself to be, but a predator grooming Will.

It’s a tough role for TV newcomer Beth, and it’s quite different to the previous roles she’s auditioned for on the show.

‘This is my first TV job, but not the first time I have auditioned for Corrie,’ Beth explained.

‘I auditioned for the part of Lauren Bolton and then for a girl who was giving Lauren a hard time at the mother and baby unit.’

Viewers will know that Lauren is played by Cait Fitton, who first joined the show in 2022.

Lauren was also a victim of grooming, after being targeted by solicitor Joel Deering.

Despite playing a ‘calculated’ villain, Beth revealed that it was important for her to ‘find the humanity’ in Megan and ‘make her a rounded character’.

‘She’s not a one-dimensional character. She’s not just this evil person. She has all these other things going on—all these life experiences she’s had, which have led her up to this point. The audience doesn’t know, the other characters don’t know, but she knows. So, there are all these things I’ve decided in my preparation,’ Beth explained.

‘She’s very insecure. She’s desperate to be loved; she’s desperate to be adored. And her reasons for that will eventually be uncovered, and we’ll dig deeper and find out more about her. But she’s a flawed person. She’s really complex.

‘As an actor, you’ve got to delve deep and find a reason for why a person, a “villain” as such is a loose term, behaves in that way.’

It seems as though Megan is set to be around for a little while, as she grows close to Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), who gets her a job at Weatherfield High in upcoming scenes.

Unfortunately, it looks like Daniel is set to be used as a pawn in her plot, as Lauren begins to suspect that something isn’t quite right between Megan and Will.

‘We can see her slowly worm her way into the family and befriend Eva and Maggie and really get the women on side with her,’ Beth teased. ‘They think she’s good for Will; they think she’s a brilliant mentor. So, no one is suspecting anything at the moment.

‘But we will see Lauren become suspicious because Lauren has obviously experienced something very similar to what Will’s going through. So she knows what to look for; she knows the signs and she spots them on the street.
