Coronation Street Jonathan Howard’s ‘heartbreak’ as he reveals ‘hardest part’ of soap role

Coronation Street star Jonathan Howard sat down with the Loose Women panel as they quizzed him about his time so far as Carl Webster.

Actor Jonathan Howard made his Coronation Street debut in April this year as Carl Webster – brother of Kevin and Debbie. His arrival came when Kevin learned that he had testicular cancer.

After receiving a serious operation to remove the testicle, he went under repeated sessions of chemotherapy.

However, as he set foot on the cobbles, his first interaction with sister-in-law Abi Webster certainly brought the drama. They got into a heated argument over a parking space, which led to Carl receiving a bloody nose.

After some light-hearted flirting, Carl asked Abi for a drink – unaware of who she was. Although she denied it, their interaction when Kevin later introduced them was very awkward.

Since then, Carl and Abi struggled to keep away from each other as their mutual attraction grew. When Abi learned that Kevin had lied about not being cancer-free, she finally ended up in the arms of Carl.

The pair have been attempting to continue their affair behind Kevin’s back, but she has yet to learn that he’s also been playing around with James Bailey.

Not to mention, he was recently revealed as the perpetrator who ran over Tyrone Dobbs in the stolen Porsche before torching the car to remove any evidence.

During Wednesday’s (September 17) installment of Loose Women, Jonathan sat down with Christine Lampard, Denise Welch, Judi Love and Nadia Sawalha.

Being far away from America for Corrie, Jonathan admitted: “The hardest part of this job is the heartbreak I feel not being with my daughter every day.”

He added that she has a long summer break and was able to stay at his mum’s house where he grew up, just an hour away from Coronation Street.

The actor quipped: “At the weekends I go home, stay in my childhood bedroom which is strange as a 40 year old!… Thankfully my mum’s decorated!”
