Coronation Street confirms Carl’s next love interest after chaotic storylines
Coronation Street‘s Carl Webster has a new love interest. Following the arrival of Shona Platt’s sister, Jodie, Weatherfield’s resident love rat will find himself flirting with the mysterious newcomer next week.
In episodes set to air on Friday, 23 January, Jodie offers to help out at the cafe while Nina heads to the wholesalers. But when Carl pops in, the pair wastes no time getting to know each other, enjoying a flirtatious conversation, while his ex, Abi, watches from a distance.
“Abi knows better than anyone that Carl isn’t to be trusted,” our Corrie source reminds us. “She blew up her entire life with Kevin to be with Carl, only for him to later show that he never really cared about her!
“Abi has plenty of ammunition to prove what Carl is really like – from his dodgy financial dealings, to his affair with James. But whether Jodie will take any of this on board remains to be seen…”
While Abi will warn Jodie about Carl, the character has a mind of her own, and according to Coronation Street’s producer Kate Brooks, she’s something of a “troublemaker” herself.

Played by Olivia Frances-Brown, Jodie was first introduced in the Corriedale crossover after she was spotted tied up in the back of a van, which Emmerdale character Graham Foster was driving.
When she crossed paths with her estranged sister in the episode, Jodie decided to keep an eye on Shona and her husband, David Platt, and headed to Weatherfield.

“Keep an eye on her, because there are lots of secrets to explode. She is going to come and bring an awful lot of drama to the Platt household,” Brooks teased. “We’ll find out exactly why she was in that van. We’ll find out what her link to Graham is.”
Giving fans further insight, the producer added: “Jodie is a really interesting character. She’s a bit of a troublemaker. She’s got a bit of mischief in her eyes.
“All is not what it seems with Jodie. There are a lot of layers to her and the audience are going to have a lot of fun unpeeling those. We’ll be unravelling who Jodie is as a character and what she wants.”
