Casualty makes two devastating changes to Kim Chang story in early iPlayer release

Casualty has made two big changes to Kim Chang’s devastating story, as she continues to struggle with an eating disorder. As a result of her illness, Kim has started experiencing blurred vision and dizzy spells at work – leading to a huge mistake by her and Matty Linlaker that left a patient paralysed.

Matty has grown increasingly concerned about his fellow resident, and though Kim has refused to open up to him, last week he realised that something was seriously wrong.

In today’s episode, Kim had problems with her vision again while treating a patient and struggled to carry out a procedure. Matty noticed and took over from Kim, continuing to keep a close eye on her.

Matty asked Kim to talk properly, aware that her work is being affected. In the staff room, he explained his suspicions that she has an issue with food, and Kim came close to opening up – but they were interrupted by Stevie.

Later, Kim was finally honest with Matty, telling him that she previously spent time in a mental health unit to treat her eating disorder. She explained that she was often admitted to A&E and it was there that she decided she wanted to be an emergency doctor.

With Kim being open about her struggles, Matty encouraged her to tell Stevie. But Kim shut this down straight away and urged Matty to keep her secret – or she will tell everyone that it was him who made the call to the CQC.

Meanwhile, the team treated the driver of a bus that crashed, and Matty soon discovered that he has been using weight loss injections that he got hold of online and without seeking medical advice beforehand.

Kim later spoke to the bus driver, who felt terrible about the injuries of the passengers who were on board. The incident made him realise that he needed to change his ways, so he handed Kim his weight loss injections and told her to destroy them.

While Kim agreed to do so, at the end of the episode it was revealed that she had taken the syringes home – and she started injecting herself with the dangerous weight loss drugs.

With her eating disorder spiralling further out of control, can Matty encourage her to get help before it’s too late?
