Call the Midwife actor Olly Rix has been inundated with congratulations following his engagement announcement to fellow actress Anna Chell.

The smitten pair, who both appear in Casualty as surgeon Flynn Byron and nurse Jodie Whyte respectively, revealed their joyous news via Instagram on Monday (January 19).

The 40-year-old star, who portrayed Matthew Aylward in Call the Midwife, posted an adorable photograph with 29-year-old Anna, tenderly kissing her forehead.

Anna gazes into the camera whilst savouring this precious moment with her newly engaged partner.

Olly kept his caption simple, sharing just an engagement ring emoji paired with a red heart, which sent his followers into overdrive, reports the Mirror.

Casualty’s Sammy Dobson, who portrays Nicole Piper, responded: “ARGHHHH! THIS IS SO, SO LUSH! Congratulations!”.

Another fan declared: “Best news! Roll on the wedding”, whilst a third added: “Congratulations to you both lots of love and happiness xx.”

“This seems like a very exciting and fairly subtle announcement! Ooh. You guys are a thing! ? More than a thing! ! ? As a fan of the show: congratulations, what a beautiful couple xx”, remarked someone else.

Olly made his relationship with Anna public in August 2025 when she posted several pictures of them together, including his Cocker Spaniel, Nellie. His Instagram caption read: “Summer with Anna and Nellie”, much to fans’ delight.

Olly initially emerged as Matthew in Call the Midwife in 2021. The role was elevated to series regular status in season 11 following his character’s romantic entanglement with Trixie Franklin (Helen George).

However, following Matthew and Trixie’s nuptials, Matthew departed Poplar for a fresh start in New York owing to financial troubles, coinciding with Olly’s exit from the programme in 2024. Trixie remains a fixture on the show.

The actor subsequently joined Casualty in early 2025 and allegedly encountered Anna on the medical drama’s set.

Meanwhile, Anna’s debut television appearance came in the ITV drama The Bay, where she portrayed Kerry Lockwood in 2022. She was subsequently cast as Jodie Whyte in Casualty in 2023.
