BBC viewers have seen Olly Rix take on the role of Flynn Byron this year as he joined the cast of the long-running medical drama, Casualty.

Call the Midwife fans saw actor Olly Rix take on a new role after leaving the period drama. Now, he’s swapped the streets of Poplar for the fictional city of Holby as the actor joined Casualty to play newcomer Flynn Byron.

The charming but complicated character has gone down well with fans, with many enjoying the new addition, especially with the complex dynamic he faces with Russell Whitelaw (Robert Bathurst), his father-in-law.

With two more episodes of the miniseries Casualty: Internal Affairs left to go, people are wondering what is in store for Flynn’s future.

Speaking about his tenure on the BBC show, it looks as though there’s good news on the horizon for Casualty fans.

He told Hello!: “We’ve been filming for a year, and you’ve only had ten episodes. We have 40 something in the bank now. So, Flynn’s not going anywhere.”

Detailing how he’s found working on the medical drama, the 40-year-old confessed it’s been full on.

Olly added:” It’s been overwhelmingly busy. It’s all-consuming. The set itself is quite extraordinary and such an immersive experience.

“Those two factors weave together perfectly. Really, I do feel as though I’ve spent the past year legitimately pretending to be a doctor, doing long shifts and finishing with sore feet and an aching back. It’s been quite the journey.”Dr Flynn Byron leans on the admin desk, wearing blue scrubs. He looks straight at the camera.

However, he praised the BBC show for the themes and topics they tackle, admitting Casualty doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable questions.

Recently in the soap, viewers saw Flynn face a huge dilemma after discovering some harrowing news about his father-in-law.

It was revealed that he had sexually assaulted Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari), giving Flynn a moral dilemma.

However, as his father-in-law knows he’s been unfaithful to his wife, he’s threatening to expose Flynn’s secrets if he reveals his wrongdoings to Rida.

Olly told The Mirror: “They’re not actively at war, they’re not fighting. He’s saying, providing you don’t do anything, I won’t do anything. Flynn has to choose to step into that fire and say ‘I’m going to risk it all, or he won’t.”
