BBC Casualty in huge shake-up as new stars announced for new series
Following its winter break, Casualty returns to BBC on Saturday, January 10, with a brand new box set titled Learning Curve, and two new recruits are joining Holby ED. Death on the Nile and Death in Paradise star Aron Julius and Vera and Doctor Who’s Jasmine Bayes have joined the cast as trainee doctors Matty and Kim respectively.

Ahead of their first on-screen appearance, their excitement is evident. “I am absolutely buzzing to be joining Casualty,” Aron said. “It’s a dream job – fast, fun and full of heart – and I can’t wait for audiences to meet him. Saturday nights just got a little more chaotic.” Jasmine is equally enthused for her role, saying: “I am delighted to be joining the ED alongside Aron for Casualty’s 40th year. The journey Kim goes on is far from simple, and I hope audiences are prepared to follow her into some troubled waters.”

Recalling his first day on set Aron said: “Seeing the set for the first time was really special. I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t for the set to practically be a hospital. It felt like getting my first wand and wandering the halls at Hogwarts. A genuine first-day-at-school feeling.
“It was very much like Matty’s first day: the treadmill was going at full speed, and I had to just get on and run. Which was perfect. There’s no better way to start than getting stuck in and doing it.”
Jasmine admitted she had difficulty “keeping her cool” after stepping inside the famous fictional hospital. “I visited for the day for my screen-test with Elinor Lawless (who plays Stevie Nash), and I remember trying to focus and keep my cool.
“Returning after booking the job was just as nerve-racking as I was introduced to multiple studios! The attention to detail in each one is very impressive; I tried to find every opportunity to walk around in between takes and explore,” she revealed.

“Photos of past and present cast members remain dotted around in places too; a constant reminder of the show’s long-running legacy.
“I was lucky to have my first day of filming with Aron (Matty), who I hadn’t seen since our chemistry read so you can imagine our excitement. To be in the same boat was a huge comfort for both of us; a familiar face!” she said.
The new recruits are set for a baptism of fire as the long-running medical drama enters its 40th year.
The logline for the new season teases at tensions ahead, stating: “As the Emergency Department is overwhelmed and the CQC closes in, Flynn and Siobhan must unite the team as tensions threaten to break it apart. Faith and Iain struggle to overcome a new challenge in their relationship, as Cam and Indie’s [romance] heats up.”
