John accidentally killed Nate Robinson when he arrived in the village last year. Nate was heading to Shetland for a fresh start after his marriage to Tracy broke down.

However, after becoming injured, John injected him with something to “save” him. Unfortunately, Nate had an adverse reaction to the shot and died.

In recent months, Nate’s body was finally discovered but John managed to pin the blame on Owen through a carefully crafted suicide note.

While he enjoyed his new marriage to Aaron Dingle, John was convinced his secret was dead and buried – quite literally. However, things switched gears after Mackenzie Boyd worked out that John was responsible.

Heading to London after a blazing row with Charity Dingle, his wife has no idea that he’s currently being held captive on John’s underground bunker, and instead believes he’s left her for good.

After John learned of Aaron’s one-night stand with his ex-husband Robert Sugden, he became determined to make Aaron “need” him. He drugged his drink, but left him on his own after seeing that Mack had escaped the bunker.

As Aaron had another glass of the spiked whiskey, he followed John into the woods for his help. Eventually, Aaron figured out what John was doing and then found Mack’s phone in his pocket.

Putting two and two together, he went into the woods to find his best friend. Sadly, he had no such luck and John stopped him. After confessing all of his harrowing crimes to Aaron, John thought he was getting his husband to understand him.

This all came to an end once Robert appeared trying to play the hero. A jealous John then called the police to frame Robert as he threw himself and Aaron over the edge of the gorge.

In the moments that followed, they were both rushed to hospital. Aaron is in an induced coma (similar to John’s ex-fiancé Aidan Moore), while John’s injuries were less severe.

Everyone blamed Robert who was swiftly arrested, the only villager with any doubt is Paddy Kirk who knows John was saying some dangerous things via the helpline he volunteers for.

During Thursday’s (September 11) hour-long installment, John woke up and was sat in Aaron’s hospital room. Now, fans are concerned that he’ll attempt to kill him to save the truth from coming out.

On a Reddit thread, u/danielurstillachild wrote: “John being conscious this ep makes me fairly certain that hes going to try to kill aaron in hospital. He’s going to be out of hospital before aaron shows any signs of waking up- but when he does John’s going to attempt to kill him like he was going to with Aidan.

“If Aaron wakes up, john’s worst nightmares will happen 1. everyone finding out he’s not a hero and actually murderous villain 2. everyone will realise that robert was right about him and he’ll not go back to prison. This seems like the only reason they would give john such minimal injuries.”

u/cold-society3325 added: “I was thinking this is a possibility as well. Maybe Paddy will realise this and constantly hover round Aaron with John trying to find ways to get rid of him.”

u/espanolalumna suggested: “If John does anything he’s not going to make it look like murder. Maybe John will try to keep Aaron in a coma like Aiden. They are both in the same hospital right.”
