EastEnders Bernie Taylor star lines up return to soap four months after exit

EastEnders lost an icon of the Square just four months ago – but could they be heading back? The BBC star has revealed she would love to return to a similar role, just weeks after her departure.

Clair Norris – who played Bernie Taylor on the BBC soap – made her arrival in Albert Square eight years ago. Since then, Bernie has lost a lot of her family, including the shock death of her brother Keanu Taylor at Christmas in a huge whodunnit storyline.

Bernie herself left earlier this year when she and cousin Felix Baker, played by Matthew James Morrison, stole £25,000 from the Panesar family. The duo ran away from the Square and with the Panesars after them, a return is unlikely.

Speaking about what’s next for her, Clair revealed that she’d love to star in another soap, with a more “glam” role in mind.

“I’d definitely like to play somebody different from Bernie. Maybe someone glam or maybe someone, I don’t know, rock, emo, chick. But yeah, something completely different would be great,” she told The Sun.

“I love soap, and now that I’ve got quite a few years of experience in it, I really appreciate how it all works. Some people come into soap and don’t take to it… they find the pace too fast or the constant adapting to new lines a bit much.

“But for me, that’s what I love about it. It’s the best way of working, in my opinion. I’d definitely love to do soap again.”

Just four months ago, Clair departed her role as Bernie

She wrote: “My last ep airs tonight and with that comes a flood of memories… EastEnders was my first audition, and my first job. Having come from college & having no experience in this industry, Julia, Wayne & Sean all took a chance on me to play Bernadette Taylor & for that, I can’t be thankful enough.

“8 years later and honestly this job, has changed my life. It’s true what they all said at the beginning, EastEnders is one big family & I’m so lucky to have met and worked with some amazing people.”

She added in a sweet post on social media: “I will always have an attachment to Bernie, she represents so many girls out there who wear their heart of their sleeves and don’t quite fit in…no offence to anyone who wear purple coats …I have adored playing her and she will forever hold a special place in my heart. This has been the best first role ever!!!”
