Finally Happy Carla & Lisa’s Most Romantic Twist Yet! | Coronation Street
It’s a topic that has been dividing Coronation Street fans, but it would seem they have been delivered some reassurance about Lisa Swain and Carla Connor’s future – even if it won’t be plain sailing.
Those who follow the ITV soap were delighted last month when the couple, who gave into their feelings for one another late last year, finally got engaged after a number of failed proposal attempts
But their happy and romantic bubble was quickly popped by the arrival of Lisa’s ex-wife, Becky Swain, who she thought had died in the line of duty four years ago.
In a shock turn of events, Becky turned up in the living room of Lisa and new fiancée Carla’s home, No.6 Coronation Street, on their daughter, Betsy’s, 18th birthday.
With Lisa struggling to understand why her death was faked, Becky explained that she had spent the last four years in Spain under another name after being put into witness protection, following an undercover operation gone wrong.
Since then, Lisa has clearly been battling with her feelings, while also trying to get to the truth of what really happened. She confronted her boss, DI Costello, but he confirmed Becky’s version of events, despite their being suspicion over whether he can be trusted.
Meanwhile, Carla has been trying her best to support her partner, particularly as Becky keeps showing up in their home, but while Lisa didn’t want Betsy to know about Becky’s return from the dead, she found out anyway and while it’s been a rocky reunion, Betsy is seemingly warming to her being around.
It’s led to fans think there could be more trouble ahead for Lisa and Carla, with a cheating theory doing the rounds. But not everyone is convinced, and believe they have rumbled Becky’s plan.
@TheConnorSwains said: “The greatest twist in this storyline is gonna be that neither of them cheat. Carla and Lisa are endgame. #Swarla #Corrie.” They also shared: “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again dark Becky will not rise if Lisa falls into her arms and kisses her! Lisa ain’t cheating. #Swarla #Corrie.”
@Audz32129841 replied: “Dark Becky will appear when Lisa knocks her back and says you gave everything up the night you died.” @TVMusings22 echoed: “Lisa won’t but Becky will try it and then I guess she will start playing games to try and win over Lisa and when it doesn’t work shel just get even more evil….
@_AIison_ posted: “Becky might make a move but Lisa definitely won’t cheat (though tbh bold to say definitely when most of this storyline doesn’t make sense…).” @EmmaPerry22 added: “Ok. Can we stop with the Lisa is going to cheat posts please. She is NOT going to cheat. Yes Becky will more than likely make a move but have faith in Lisa. She is 100% committed to Carla would never hurt her.”
Meanwhile, new spoilers for next week’s edition of Corrie have seemingly confirmed that Swarla’s future is very much together, even if Becky looks set to cause some trouble.
In the upcoming scenes, Carla will voice her doubts, leaving Lisa to stand firm on her future with the Underworld factory boss. It starts when Carla tells Lisa that she’s finally sold the Rovers Return to someone called Ben.
But when Carla admits she’s having second thoughts about her trip to Ireland, as she doesn’t like to leave her alone with Becky. Lisa questions Carla’s trust in her. But the detective sergeant assures Carla that she loves her and has no interest in Becky.
Later in the week, Betsy persuades Becky to model some of her designs for her college project and Lisa can’t help but smile as Becky struts around the lounge.
When Lisa joins in, an amused Betsy records the spectacle, uploading it to her socials. But the move throws Becky into panic and points out that people might recognise her.

But things clearly spiral as the next we know is that having been out all night, DC Kit Green tells Lisa that Betsy’s been arrested. Betsy sits alone in a police cell, tired and confused, while Lisa rails at Becky and tells her that Betsy’s been struggling ever since she showed up, leaving Becky stung.
At the station, an officer interviews Betsy and tells her that, according to DI Costello, she damaged a police car, resisted arrest and then tried to attack him. Betsy refuses to comment but we soon see that Costello meets up with Becky and spells out that she needs to disappear again – or it will be worse for Betsy.
