Coronation Street favourite ‘to return’ 24 years after debut and Dev will be floored

Coronation Street fans are convinced that the cobbles is set to be rocked by a major twist

Coronation Street fans are speculating that a beloved character from the past could be making a surprise return in an unexpected twist involving Asha Alahan.

Asha, portrayed by Tanisha Gorey, has been a constant presence on the soap since her on-screen birth in 2009. As the daughter of Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) and Sunita (Shobna Gulati), Asha has endeared herself to viewers.

She’s also been at the heart of numerous significant storylines. From grappling with body image issues to training as a paramedic, her time in Weatherfield has been far from uneventful.Coronation Street spoilers for next week reveal worrying scenes for Asha Alahan

Particularly in recent weeks, as in September, Asha was subjected to a horrific racist attack from a drunken woman, Naomi, whom Asha was attempting to assist while on duty.

The incident has taken a toll on Asha’s mental health, leading her into a downward spiral. Matters only worsened for Asha when her stepmother Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove) sought revenge on Naomi, which backfired, reports the Daily Star.

This week, the soap aired a distressing twist when Asha overdosed. In Monday’s episode (October 5), Asha was found unconscious on a bench.

She was subsequently rushed to hospital and regained consciousness, where it was revealed that Asha had consumed a large quantity of pills and alcohol, resulting in her overdose.

Now, as Asha’s situation appears to be deteriorating, fans believe the soap might reintroduce a familiar face. On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, viewers have predicted the return of her mother Sunita, in the form of a hallucination.Dev Alahan [JIMMI HARKISHIN] and the kids arrive back ñ he Sunita Alahan [SHOBNA GULATI] he's a changed man.

“I think Asha is going to hallucinate Sunita. Like when Seb returned this year,” speculated one viewer, referring to Abi Webster (Sally Carman) hallucinating her deceased son Seb (Harry Visinoni).

Another concurred: “Sunita’s return looms.”

A third added: “Honestly this would be so beautiful and epic.” Sharing similar thoughts, someone else pondered: “I thought this too that a Sunita ghost will appear. We’ve had a few recently.”

Fans will remember that Sunita first graced our screens back in 2001. As Dev’s beloved wife and mother to twins Aadi and Asha, Sunita quickly won over audiences. However, in 2013, after spending 12 years on the famous cobbles, Sunita met her tragic end in a devastating blaze at the Rovers Return pub.
