WALFORD WINS EastEnders wins prestigious RTS Award as ITV soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street are SNUBBED
EASTENDERS is riding high this morning after winning a prestigious gong after Emmerdale and Corrie were both SNUBBED.
It was a good night for the cast of the BBC‘s London-based show, as they were crowned winners at the prestigious RTS Awards.

This year’s Royal Television Society (RTS) Programme Awards took place at London’s posh Grosvenor House Hotel.
EastEnders was up for up for a top gong alongside last year’s winners Casualty, and also Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.
But it was the Albert Square drama that was victorious and scooped the Best Soap and Continuing Drama gong.
Flying the flag for EastEnders last night was actor Colin Salmon, who plays George Knight, who accepted the award on behalf of his cast.

Losing out on a prestigious RTS Award, which recognise the crème de la crème of British television, is a double blow for ITV.
This is because neither of their soaps even got a look in.
Both Coronation Street and Emmerdale were both snubbed at this year’s RTS Awards when the nominations were revealed earlier this month.
This is despite the huge success of their big Corriedale episode, which saw the two soaps merge together.
Meanwhile, last night’s RTS Awards were dominated by Netflix‘s Adolescence which won four gongs.
The limited series, which has already swept the board at this year’s awards season, saw the show’s leading star, Owen Cooper, 16, take home two gongs for his role as teenage murder suspect Jamie Miller.

Although he wasn’t there to accept the award, his co-star Stephen Graham was, who also won the Best Writer award in the drama category.
The show also won Best Limited Series.
RTS judges described Adolescence’s young actor Owen as a “natural talent”, with “a performance of phenomenal skill in a demanding, uncompromising role”.
Out of all the broadcasters, it was the BBC who led the night, and bagged 16 wins.

This included victories for Celebrity Traitors in the entertainment and reality category, and Things You Should Have Done for scripted comedy.
The Beeb’s Blue Lights won for best drama, and their smash hit show Unforgivable won gongs for Bobby Schofield and Anna Friel.
Sir Michael Palin was given the Outstanding Achievement Award.
