David went on to ask if that was the same for Sally’s co-star William ‘Bill’ Roache who has played Ken Barlow since the very first episode of Corrie back in December 1960.

“Yeah,” she confirmed. “All of us. You always think ‘this is the year’….” David again asked Bill would be thinking the same, to which Sally said: “Yeah, I imagine. None of us are indispensable. There’s always other people and other stories to be told.”

Matt went on to ask if all of the show’s actors are sat down around the same time to discover their fate, to which Sally revealed: “No it’s different. All the older ones, and that’s me, we find out between November and January.”

When quizzed on when her current contract comes to an end, Sally confirmed: “Mine is at the end of January,” to which Matt replied: “So you don’t get much notice?” as Sally laughed: “No!”

She went on: “It’s such a great job and I feel very grateful I’ve still got it after 40 years. I’m not in it as much as I used to be, but I drove in the other day and, as the barrier went up, I just had this huge smile because it felt like I was home. I knew I was going to have a fun day.”
