Those who follow the ITV soap know that Shona, played by Julia Goulding, has been confronted with her past following the arrival of her younger sister, Jodie, out of the blue.

Corrie viewers will recall that Jodie’s identity was at first unknown as Her arrival happened during the long-running show’s epic crossover with Emmerdale. The historic TV event, dubbed Corriedale, which aired at the start of January to mark the network’s new soap schedule, featured a horror multi-vehicle crash that saw the lives of those from Weatherfield and the Dales in danger.

While not directly involved in the crash, Jodie was involved in the chaos, having initially seen tied up in the back of a van, thought to be the one driven by Emmerdale’s Graham Foster. She ended up making an escape, and when Corrie cop DC Kit Green gave chase, she ran straight into a tree, causing her to be among the injured.

And it was the injury that ending up bringing her to Shona, who was was rushed to Hotten General having been involved in the smash with her husband, David. After following them to Weatherfield General, Jodie revealed herself to Shona and a confused David, who later invited her to stay at No.8, where Jodie has started a plan to get in between her sister and her husband.

During Monday’s (February 9) visit to the cobbles, Corrie viewers saw Shona share an update on her search for their dad, after being misdirected by Jodie and their dad’s friend, Bernard. Meanwhile, when Jodie left the house all dressed up, Shona was suspicious and decided to follow her to see who she was meeting.

Coronation Street welcomes former Emmerdale star Steve Evets in pivotal Shona and Jodie dad role

After her sneaking around was derailed by Dev Alahan, Shona finally cornered Jodie and demanded the truth. Jodie claimed she was off to see a mystery man named ‘John’. But Shona still wasn’t convinced, and was later seen arriving at a psychiatric hospital to find Jodie sitting by their dad’s bedside.

As Shona confronted her, Jodie managed to manipulate the situation again, telling her sibling: “It started when you left. And then he had a complete breakdown when mum walked out on him.” She added: “This is all part of my old life, isn’t it? I didn’t want to drag you back into it.”

Jodie claimed she struggled to look after Doug at home as he has “spells where he gets angry”. Doug, meanwhile, appeared confused and when Jodie revealed Shona had come to see him, Doug lashed out. “You can’t be here. It’s not right,” he told Shona. “Don’t believe her, she’s a liar. She lies. Keep away from her!”

A nurse stepped in and Shona was left feeling more guilty than before, apologising for leaving Jodie to look after him. But once Shona was gone, Jodie returned to her dad’s room and sinisterly warned: “You know what happens when we fall out. It doesn’t work out very well for you, does it?”

But Corrie fans were distracted during the scenes as they realised Doug was being played by Steve Evets, who found fame for his leading role in the 2009 film Looking for Eric. The 66-year-old is no stranger to soap land, having previously appeared on Emmerdale and Casualty decades ago.

However, it was his most recent role, playing sweary farmer Jim in Sky comedy Brassic, that Corrie fans were mentioning on social media. @mynbragg said: “Still can’t get my head around that farmer Jim from #brassic is Shona’s dad in #corrie.” @DavidAxlerode posted: “That’s Jim from Brassic #corrie.” @hollycarruthers commented: “Nice to see jim from brassic on #corrie.”

@sooby72 penned: “Jim from Brassic showing up in #corrie was not on my bingo card.” @JTF2706 shared: “Well Well…… if it ain’t Farmer Jim from Brassic #Corrie hahaha.” @Tomp_14 typed: “Is that farmer Jim as Shona’s dad in Corrie?
