Major John update confirmed in Emmerdale and things spiral ahead of huge exit
John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) was one of Emmerdale’s most complex and memorable villains, so it’s fitting that he’s still causing all kinds of bother even after his death.
John’s reign of terror (he would call it ‘helping’) finally came to an end when his sister Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) plunged a syringe into him in the woods in the aftermath of the huge Corriedale accident and then put the syringe into his hand so it looked like he’d administered it himself.
Since then, Victoria has been struggling with guilt.
Not only has she killed her own brother, but she feels responsible for him being in the village in the first place. If it hadn’t been for her convincing him to stay in Emmerdale so she could get to know him, he wouldn’t have ended up killing Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) and landing numerous other people in hospital at various times as he tried to prove what a hero he was.
And that was before he became completely unhinged and kidnapped Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb) and dragged Aaron (Danny Miller) off a cliff.
Basically John was a menace to society and nobody will miss him but Victoria can’t see it that way. Even worse, what she’s currently unaware of is that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) videoed her as she stood over John’s body with the syringe, and he used this fact to get Robert (Ryan Hawley) to plant incriminating documents at Moira (Natalie J Robb)’s house that linked her to Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths)’ people trafficking operation.
And now Moira has been arrested for murder as well as people trafficking after Celia’s body was found buried on her land alongside one of her victims.
In upcoming episodes Victoria gets news about the investigation into John’s death and hears it’s been ruled as suicide. While she should be feeling a sense of relief, Victoria still can’t overcome her guilt.

Then she overhears something that shocks her. Joe Tate is talking to Robert about plans to sell their part of the farm to Joe. He’s keen to speed up the sale and reminds Robert that he can always plant evidence of his own if Robert doesn’t push the sale forward.
Victoria confronts Robert, who eventually admits to hiding the documents at Moira’s farm. Victoria guesses that Joe used the video of her as blackmail and that this means she’s also indirectly responsible for Moira being in prison.
Joe pressurises her into signing the contracts straight away and threatens to release the video if she refuses. Victoria refuses to buckle and says she needs to take the paperwork home to read it properly before she signs.

Feeling totally cornered, Victoria goes to the prison to talk to Moira. She claims that the farm is impossible to manage and selling is the only option. As Moira picks up her pen to sign, Victoria mentions that the buyers are the Tates. Will she still go ahead and sign? And if she doesn’t, will Joe carry out his threat and make sure Victoria is held responsible for John’s murder?
