It’s undeniable that Kim Tate is an Emmerdale icon – but what is the character’s actual age?

Kim first graced the ITV soap back in 1989 – and as the ruthless, predatory matriarch of the village, she has featured in numerous major storylines.

From her countless rivalries in the Dales to actually faking her own death, Kim’s tenure on the programme has been anything but uneventful throughout the years.

Kim’s also featured in multiple notable relationships – including her affair and subsequent marriage to Frank Tate (Norman Bowler) and her involvement with Will Taylor (Dean Andrews), who passed away in 2024.

Yet in the soap this week, Kim’s existence was thrown into chaos following the unexpected return of former lover and husband Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough). Viewers will remember that Graham was apparently murdered six years earlier with Kim amongst the suspects, reports the Daily Star.

To Kim’s utter astonishment, Graham disclosed that he staged his death and has been operating as a hitman ever since. In Thursday’s episode (January 29) the aftermath of Graham’s reappearance persisted, as Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) opened up to Kim about his emotions towards father figure Graham.

Meanwhile, amongst all the turmoil unfolding currently, some viewers have grown inquisitive about Kim’s age. On an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one individual asked: “Kim looks so good, how old is she now?” Another viewer responded: “Kim’s 67, Claire King is 64.”

A third exclaimed: “67? ! No way!” Another astonished fan stated: “She looks so good for 67.” A fifth additionally remarked: “A couple of years off 70? That blows my mind.” Kim was born on 19th January 1959, whilst actress Claire was born on 10th January 1962.

This follows Kim actress Claire King responding to speculation amongst fans that Kim might be departing nearly four decades following her first appearance. She told the Mirror: “From my side, I would like to stay [in Emmerdale].

“But they might have plans to get rid of me already! I have read things like ‘Kim’s fate is doomed’ but I certainly haven’t read that in the scripts. It’s why I don’t ever read anything on social media.”
