EMOTIONAL SCENES
In October fans were in tears at Dev Alahan’s reaction to daughter Asha’s suicide attempt.
The businessman – who is played by actor Jimmi Harkishan in the ITV soap – broke down after realising his student paramedic daughter had tried to take her own life.
In harrowing scenes Asha had taken an overdose of pills but was found in the street at the last minute and rushed to hospital.
Revealing that she’d been feeling low for months, Asha said: “I just remember that after Mason died, and then Craig died, I just started spiralling.
“I started feeling really low, hollowed out like a ghost. I know it sounds daft…”
Trying to explain, Asha added: “I tried, dad I really tried to focus on the good but nothing worked. And I just wanted it all to stop but I didn’t know how so…”
“No, accidents happen, people make mistakes,” said Dev.
Asha cut in: “But dad… it wasn’t an accident. I’m so sorry.
“I know that once I’d taken those pills, I shouldn’t have. I’m glad that it didn’t work, I’m glad that I’m here.”
Asha was then visited by the mental health team who spoke to her about everything she’d been through.
He agreed and headed home – but it didn’t take long for his true feelings to come tumbling out once he reunited with his wife.
As he tried to tell Bernie why they were keeping Ahsa in over night, Dev begin to break down.
“The drugs she’s taken… they think they might have caused some damage,” he said as he fell apart.
“I nearly lost her, didn’t I? I nearly lost my little girl and I didn’t see it. I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
