Coronation Street has given fans a major – and much-welcomed – update for fan-favourite couple following their recent turmoil at the hands of Becky Swain.
Those who have been following the couple’s romance in the ITV soap know that things haven’t been easy ever since they gave in to their feelings for one another towards the end of 2024. But just as things started to look up, with Lisa popping the question and moving into their first home, No.6 Coronation Street, their future was flipped upside down once again.
And that was down to Becky’s return from the dead, after she was presumed to have died in the line of duty, as it came days after Lisa and Carla got engaged, and on her and Lisa’s daughter, Betsy’s 18th birthday. Becky soon succeeded in splitting them up, with viewers witnessing emotional scenes as Carla called time on her and Lisa’s relationship. Later, Carla had a change of heart but Lisa didn’t seem to want to know, leaving her partner heartbroken.
She left her engagement ring behind at No.6 and seemingly headed off on a holiday to Spain she had originally planned as a surprise for Lisa and Betsy. However, some things just weren’t adding up, especially with Carla not checking into her hotel, and it was soon revealed she was being held captive by Becky.
When DC Kit Green, who Carla had teamed up with, finally worked out what DI Costello’s mention of ‘Rhubarb Hill’ meant, with the addition of ‘Blessing’ being a location, he headed to the flat Carla was only being kept in, only to find no one there as Becky had already got onto Kit and had moved Carla before he eventually found her once and for all in a shipping container.

While in a bad way herself, Carla was determined to find Lisa and Betsy and put a stop to Becky’s manipulation once and for all. But what they didn’t expect was to find the trio involved in a horror multi-vehicle pile-up, leading to Carla and Kit having to help save Betsy and Lisa’s lives.
But there was a moment of satisfaction for fans, as even in her injured state, Lisa sprang into detective mode and arrested Becky. And it seems it paves the way for happier times to come for Lisa and Carla – as well as the extended Connor-Swains.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News about what’s ahead, Corrie producer Kate Brooks told us: “Becky was an absolute obstacle thrown their way and kind of now they’ve dealt with Becky and her true colours have absolutely been revealed for all to see, and Lisa’s finally kind of realised the extent of the manipulation and the lies that Becky’s told, we’ll see them start to make their way back to each other.

“Obviously, there’s a lot to get past but they love each other and that love never faltered throughout it all. I think the love remained strong, it was the circumstances that kind of got in the way and now that the ghost of Becky is finally being put to bed they can move forward with their lives and they can look forward to their future together.
“They were engaged, so wedding bells are certainly ringing in the not-too-distant future. And they will get their happy ever after, you know, they will get the chance to kind of finally be free from Becky and be free, from kind of the drama that surrounded that story and be happy with and content with each other. So yeah, it’s going to be a romantic spring I think for Carla and Lisa which will make many people smile, I imagine.”
