Emmerdale’s Robert Sugden caught out after shock blackmail decision

Robert Sugden was caught on Emmerdale following a shocking decision in the ongoing blackmail storyline involving Joe Tate. As he strived to protect his half-sister Victoria, what did Robert decide to do?

The explosive events of Corriedale on Monday (5 January) saw Victoria kill John, hers and Robert’s half-brother. There was a twist, however, as Joe Tate knew of Victoria’s crime and subsequently used this knowledge to his advantage.

A long aim of his has been to acquire Butler’s Farm from Moira Dingle, and he concocted a dastardly plan after discovering Celia Daniels’s illegal operation. Sensing an opportunity, Joe ordered Robert to plant that evidence and blame Moira.

Tonight’s (8 January) instalment of the ITV soap began with Robert refusing to follow Joe’s demands, though the schemer attempted to persuade him by reminding him of the financials that were at stake.

Robert still wasn’t budged by the prospect of extra money, but Joe turned the tables as he said that failing to frame Moira would spell trouble for Robert and Victoria – namely, that the footage of John’s murder would be sent to the police.

Robert later informed Aaron of his precarious situation, with Aaron saying that he ultimately needed to do right by Victoria. With these words fresh in his mind, Robert headed to Moira’s to do the deed.

Joe checked up on him to make sure that he was following through with his demands, with Robert being torn over where to plant the envelope. His indecision could prove costly, as a twist occurred.

Just as he prepared to make his move, Moira walked in and immediately became suspicious of Robert’s actions. As she enquired about his sneaky behaviour, Robert realised that the walls were closing in…

With Moira now aware that Robert is acting strangely, could the trail all the way back to Joe be discovered? And how will Joe react when he finds out that his grand scheme could be compromised before it even began?
