‘Greatest hour of television I’ve ever seen’: Corriedale fans hail soap crossover as ‘absolute cinema’ after two worlds collide
Corriedale have branded the highly-anticipated crossover ‘absolutely amazing’ and ‘beautifully done’, as the worlds of Coronation Street and Emmerdale were brought together for the first time on Monday night.
The historic episode began with a catastrophic car pile-up, with many beloved residents from both Weatherfield and the Dales left fighting for their lives.
The explosive events never let up throughout the jam-packed hour, with viewers treated to plenty of drama from start to finish, from grisly murders, a romantic proposal, tense chase scenes and even several deaths.
And fans didn’t waste anytime in taking to X after it aired to praise the cast and crew for giving them ‘the most special piece of tv’, predicting the crossover would win a slew of awards and expressing their desire for another Corriedale in the future.
They praised: ‘Standing ovation from my living room. What an episode’; ‘That was the greatest hour of television I’ve ever seen. Everyone involved should be incredibly proud.’
‘I think that was the single best episode of a soap I’ve ever seen in my life and I’m not even being dramatic. My brain is going to take 3-5 business days to process this. So many questions. Absolute cinema. Everyone who worked on it take a f***ing bow.’

The jam-packed episode began with the aftermath of Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) and Ronnie Bailey’s (Vinta Morgan) wedding, which soon went the same tragic way that most soap weddings do.
After feeling the cops draw in on her, Becky Swain (Amy Cudden) fled Weatherfield, taking ex Lisa (Vicky Myers) and their daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin) with her.
And fans didn’t waste anytime in taking to X after it aired to praise the cast and crew for giving them ‘the most special piece of tv’, predicting the crossover would win a slew of awards and expressing their desire for another Corriedale in the future
However, in the car Lisa discovered Becky’s villainous plans to steal her away from her new girlfriend Carla Connor (Alison King), including holding Carla captive in a cupboard.
In the ensuing row, Becky crashed her car into another vehicle, in which was none other than Emmerdale’s John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).
While drunken Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) had also sped off from the wedding, with sister Debbie in the passenger seat, and also collided with Becky’s car, causing the pile-up.
But things only got worse as the minibus carrying the guests home from the wedding and being driven Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) was heading straight towards the crash site.
Carla arrived to bravely jump in front of the bus to stop it hitting the car – where Lisa and Betsy were still trapped inside – and Billy violently served to avoid her, causing the minibus to flip over.
The carnage only continued, as more vehicles joined the pile-up while the minibus steadily began filling with smoke as it caught alight.
Billy desperately tried to free himself from the driver’s seat, but just when he managed it, Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) arrived to trap him back inside, after the vicar discovered how Theo had been abusing boyfriend Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce).
Emotional scenes saw Billy accept his fate and said the Lord’s Prayer to himself, as the whole bus exploded, leaving viewers in tears.

Elsewhere, Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) was impaled by a metal pole after crashing into a field with pregnant wife Charity (Emma Atkins).
Charity was later seen trying to help fellow expecting mother, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), as she went into premature labour after the crash.
But things only became more nerve-wracking as Shona’s husband David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) then collapsed in a seizure, with his fate unknown.
The hits just kept on coming for viewers however, as fan-favourite Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) was then shot in the struggle to apprehend serial killer John Sugden.

Fans breathed a sigh of relief as he was able to make it to a hospital in time and was reunited with wife Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb).
However, in a devastating twist, a doctor soon arrived to reveal that while treating his gunshot wound they had discovered Cain had a sizeable mass, which could be cancerous.
But while it seemed that John had evaded capture from his brother Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and policeman Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) in the chaos, he was later seen lying dead, with his own sister Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) standing over his body.
Another villain to get their comeuppance was Becky, in an epic twist that saw Lisa be the one to take her down.

After a moving moment that saw everyone at the crash come together to move Lisa’s car away from the flames, and she was rescued by the paramedics.
Carla intervened as Becky attempted to flee once again, before Lisa called out to Becky, seemingly emotional over her departure and begging for a goodbye before she left.
But as Becky voiced her love for the police officer and went to kiss her, Lisa snapped handcuffs around her wrists and declared: ‘Rebecca Swain, I am arresting you for theft, GBH and kidnapping!’
And even amid the car crashes, explosions and gruesome murders, there was even time for a romantic scene, as Aaron and Robert decided to tie the knot again.
After Aaron was injured in the crash, the pair admitted their feelings for each other and decided to get married, vowing to ‘do it properly this time’.
While there were several other touching moments that seemed to be direct nods to soap enthusiasts, that received a warm reception on social media.
Referencing the fact that several actors had had roles on both soaps, after spotting Jai Sharma driving a van, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) quipped that he thought he had seen someone he used to work with, as Chris Bisson previously played Vikram on the cobbles.
And a poignant moment came when the longest-serving stars of both Emmerdale and Corrie, Bill Roache and Chris Chittell, came together for a brief scene as Ken Barlow and Eric Pollard, respectively.

Yet the biggest twist of the night saw the hooded driver of the van carrying kidnapped mystery newcomer Jodie revealed to be Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough)
Meanwhile, another character’s life was left hanging in the balance by the episode’s end, with Carl’s fate uncertain.
After he moved his unconscious sister into the driver’s seat to make it look like she’d been at fault for the crash, he then collapsed and was rushed to hospital.
However, once there Kevin revealed that he knew that it was Carl driving and that he wouldn’t let him ruin Debbie’s life.
But Carl’s condition later took a nosedive as he crashed and medics were seen rushing into his room to perform CPR, with it not being shown whether they succeeded in reviving him.

The Emmerdale star’s shocking return had fans’ jaws on the floor, as he was seemingly killed off six years ago, by rapist Pierce Harris.
