EastEnders’ Sam Mitchell to get important news in emotional cancer story
EastEnders spoilers follow for next week’s episodes.
EastEnders will air a big update in Sam Mitchell’s cancer storyline in the coming days, as the soap follows up on the recent reveal of her diagnosis. Sam was convinced she was dying, but was finally persuaded to stop being stubborn and book an appointment.
In scenes set to air on Tuesday and Wednesday (6 and 7 January), Sam confides in Alfie Moon about her upcoming lumpectomy operation.
During the conversation, she reveals the big news that the date has come through.
It’s set to be an emotional conversation, as Alfie went through a similar experience himself in 2023 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer.
“Sam is really struggling as she waits for news about her life-saving lumpectomy,” explains our insider.
“She reaches out to Alfie, who knows exactly what she is going through – it’s only been a couple of years since he had an operation to treat his prostate cancer.
“Having confided in Alfie, how will Sam feel when the date comes through for the all-important operation?”
It has been confirmed that Kim Medcalf is only back for a short stint, but that doesn’t mean that Sam will be killed off.
In fact, it’s quite the opposite, as Sam will make a full recovery due to her operation, with the storyline highlighting the importance of getting checked, so that any abnormalities can be dealt with as soon as possible.
EastEnders’ executive producer Ben Wadey said in a statement: “It was imperative that we worked with Breast Cancer Now to ensure that Sam’s important breast cancer storyline was portrayed sensitively and accurately.
“Sam is initially hesitant to seek medical advice after she finds a lump in her breast but with the support of family and friends, Sam gets help quickly, and because her cancer is caught early, she’s able to successfully remove her breast lump via a lumpectomy in the New Year.”
