David fights tears in emotional Coronation Street video as he lashes out at family

David and Shona Platt (Jack P Shepherd and Julia Goulding) are currently enduring hell following a diagnosis that means their unborn baby may not survive.

In a haunting episode, the loving couple’s lives were shattered when a doctor told them about a tumour on the baby – and they have been left fearing for the future.

Shona is trying her best to stay optimistic and reasons with David that at least they know what they are dealing with now.

‘It could be worse,’ she argues, but David is having none of it and recoils at her positivity.

Things get even more tense in a spoiler clip for next week, in which Bethany (Lucy Fallon), Toyah (Georgia Taylor) and Nick (Ben Price) excitedly approach with a gift.

David can’t bear to look as Shona feigns joy at the musical mobile she is presented with.

As Toyah exclaims what a joyful time it is for them all, and Nick says wistfully that he can’t wait, David snaps and, holding back tears, informs them all that the baby might not survive.

As they reel and are left not knowing what to say, Shona looks at David thunderously, upset that this is how the news has come out.

Discussing the future of the story, and where Shona’s head is at, Julia told us: ‘Termination isn’t an option for her. She’s just like, “Yep, surgery, we’re doing it.”

‘And I think that’s where a lot of the conflict comes in, because it’s a particular type of operation and it’s incredibly rare, and there is a risk to mother’s life and baby’s life.

‘And that’s where David’s arguments come in, to at least think about the pros and cons of having a termination or having the surgery.’
