SAD NEWS: Corrie Producer Announces Departure Of Beloved Character “He Will Not Appear Anymore
Beloved Coronation Street Character Killed Off in Tragic Twist
PC Craig Tinker, played by actor Colson Smith, has made a devastating and permanent exit from the cobbles of Coronation Street after nearly 14 years on the ITV soap.
The character’s final scenes aired recently, concluding in a “hero’s death” after he sustained fatal injuries when brutally attacked while on duty as a police officer.
The news of the character’s departure was confirmed months ago when actor Colson Smith was informed by Corrie producer Kate Brooks of the plan to write out his long-running character.
Smith, who made his debut as Craig Tinker in 2011, had reportedly told the show’s producer that he wanted his character to be killed off to ensure a definitive end to his time on the show. He explained that this finality would allow him to move on without the possibility of a return, viewing the “heroic” death as the perfect send-off.
The emotional storyline saw the popular character die in the line of duty, leaving co-stars like Andy Whyment (Kirk Sutherland) in tears and prompting an outpouring of love from the cast and crew on the actor’s final day of filming.
Other recent confirmed departures from the soap include the long-serving Helen Worth (Gail Platt), who is set to exit after 50 years on the show, and actor Daniel Brocklebank (Billy Mayhew), who is also rumored to be involved in an explosive exit storyline.
