Coronation Street viewers believe they’ve worked out who Maggie Driscoll is going to kill, after reports emerged that the character is concealing a deadly secret.

Maggie (Pauline McLynn) recently arrived on the ITV soap, turning up on the cobbles as Eva Price’s (Catherine Tyldesley) “mother-in-law from hell”.

Fans will remember Eva – who last appeared in 2018 – came back to Weatherfield last month, after new husband Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker) surprised her by purchasing the Rovers Return, making her the landlady.

Alongside Ben and Eva, Maggie’s entrance also brought her grandsons, Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike) and Will (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) and Eva’s daughter, Susie, whom she had with the late Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward).

The new family have since been adjusting to life on the cobbles. However, there’s already been significant drama, as it’s emerged that Will is being groomed by his athletics coach in a disturbing new storyline, reports the Daily Star.

Additionally, Maggie raised eyebrows amongst viewers when she discovered something in Ken Barlow’s (William Roache) drawer that visibly shocked her. What Maggie had found wasn’t revealed but it evidently made an impact on her.

This week, reports surfaced that Maggie is set to become the soap’s latest killer, with a source suggesting the character will be shown murdering someone in a special flashback episode. A source revealed to The Sun: “When viewers see whose death Maggie was behind, it will really send shockwaves through ­Weatherfield and life will never quite be the same again for her.

“The killing happened prior to her moving into the Rovers Return with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren, and none of them will be aware of it. But it will all come out in a bombshell storyline leading up to the festive season.”

Fans have already begun speculating about Maggie’s potential victim in the upcoming flashback episode. On X, one viewer suggested: “Could it have been Susan, Ken’s daughter, Adam’s mother? They say she died in a “traffic accident.” But Maggie’s face changed when she opened that drawer at Ken’s. Did she see a photo of Susan? Or something to do with Deirdre’s death?”.

Another viewer concurred: “I wondered about Susan as well. Years ago it was revealed Billy was a passenger in the car that hit her and fled the scene. Billy is also being written out. Only I feel like Billy must have met Maggie on the street by now.”

Viewers will remember that Susan Barlow was killed off-screen in 2001 in a car accident. It was subsequently revealed that Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) was involved in her death when he and Gareth Brannigan accidentally struck her following a petrol station robbery.
