90s EastEnders star is barely recognisable 27 years after soap farewell

Her time on EastEnders might have been brief – but it was certainly dramatic.

Saskia Duncan, played by actress Deborah Sheridan-Taylor, appeared on the BBC soap from December 1998 to February 1999 with her short but memorable stint coming to an end when her character was brutally killed by Steve Owen (played by Martin Kemp).

Her grisly demise became one of the most memorable murder soap scenes. But now, almost 30 years on from her iconic exit, actress Deborah has completely reinvented herself.

The star now works as a successful personal stylist and interior designer, and has her own company DST Designs. She also appeared on property show Grand Designs back in 2014, which saw her transform her London home.

In her most recent post on Instagram, where she boasts 5,870 followers, Deborah wrote of her work: “Refresh. Reconfigure. Reimagine. What if I told you that your wardrobe is already full of possibilities?

“In this Outfit Building session, I took my client’s existing pieces and completely transformed how she sees and wears them – this client has been working with me for about four years now, everything she is wearing has been bought through me, either firsthand or we also shop Preloved for wardrobe enrichment.

“Switching up colour combinations, original thinking, accessories and silhouettes. The result? She described it as ‘a whole new wardrobe!’ without buying a single new item. This is the power of strategic styling. If your wardrobe feels uninspired, let’s redefine it together.”

Deborah’s page is filled with selfies in an array of outfits – from dresses to wide-legged trousers and tailored blazers.

She writes on her website deborahsheridantaylordesigns.com: “What I do for you, is about you and how you feel, not about clothes, style nor fashion, but you. My clients don’t look like they’ve been styled, they just look like they’ve got impeccable taste.

“I will empower you, enable you to do what you do, better… whether you’re a banker, lawyer, entrepreneur, other or mother. I work with everyone from global brands to small businesses, company owners, executive officers and celebrities to charities, artists to entrepreneurs.

“No matter who you are, or what your style, I deliver currency, relevance, confidence and individuality. I live in central London in a house I designed and built without compromise with my husband and two daughters.”

During her time on EastEnders, Deborah portrayed femme fatale Saskia Duncan. She arrived in Walford as the ex-girlfriend of Steve Owen, who’d since moved on with Mel, played by Tamsin Outhwaite.

Obsessive and unstable, Saskia began a stalking campaign against the couple and ultimately succeeded in luring Steve back to bed, only for him to reject her once again.

It all came to an end on Valentine’s Day in 1998 when she turned up at Steve’s club, E20, and told him she’d aborted his baby before trying to strangle him.

In retaliation, Steve hit her on the head with an ashtray, killing her. He went on to frame Matthew Rose (Joe Absolom) for the murder, since he was also there at the time of her death and helped bury her body in Epping Forest.
